I had a sort of epic fail of knitting pattern when I left the house. I couldn't get one of the patterns I wanted (how does a PDF go out of stock?!), and I managed to clean the other pattern out of my pocket. Happily, I had books!
During the Superbowl (and wasn't that exciting! 100-yard interception for a touchdown! That dude should totally have gotten MVP.), I knitted the necklace out of this:

Well, all but the bindoff. It was probably only about an hour of knitting, all told. On Monday,
barda came over and we noodled about the bead accents for it, which she is going to make for me. That's why I didn't finish the bindoff. I think it's going to be awesome, though, and I have plenty of yarn left over to make a pair of Mrs. Beaton's.
On the flight home, I finished my book and was about to attempt sleep when we hit turbulence across, I think the entirety of Montana. I have to be more tired than I was to sleep through "flight attendents sit down" turbulence, so I pulled out my knitting. First, I darned socks. Indeed, I did. For the first time ever, because why would anyone ever darn anything but hand made socks, and I've only been making socks for a couple years, so it took a while for them to wear out. I had a needle, and spare matching yarn, and I'd read the instructions several times. I think my darns are what good housewifely romance heroines would refer to as "lumpy", but everyone must start somewhere. Only one sock was totally worn through, and I did that one first. Then I examined the second one and saw that it was thin, so I did a lighter darn to reinforce it. The darns hardly even show on the right side, and I'm wearing the socks right now and they seem perfectly comfortable. And I love these socks -- they're in a yarn called Twizzle (manifestly unsuited for socks, but hey) which is a merino with one strand of silk. They are very pretty, because the silk and the wool take up the dye differently.

Then I still had more flight left, so I took out the Kauni I bought at Madrona two years ago and finally cast on for a purselet I have been contemplating for a while. It's for Knit Like A Pirate, and it's in shades of red and gold. It's called Danegeld. Because why restrict piracy to one small space in time and geography? I actually have a nebulous idea for a lace fan based on Chinese junk pirates, but 1) lace design scares me 2) I currently already have three patterns in various stages of completion/contemplation (cabled bag, carrick-bend hat, danegeld), and one to test-knit (powdermonkey mittens).
