It's a fine day for ducks. Which is to say it's still raining.
Stories on flooding up by where we live:
http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/updates/story/6218616p-5432653c.htmlhttp://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/6218427p-5432466c.html Dad has been down to the Nisqually River and reports that it has crested for now but that the dumb bunnies who built little cabins on a floodplain are now short two cabins, 200 yds of dike, and about 300 trees. Power is out at mom's school, but the 7 bridge over the Nisqually is holding, and the fire department is down watching it like hawks. That is the river that took out the campground and road at Mt. Rainier, and the bridge to Skate Creek Road. It's especially bad that road is out because it connects across a pass to highway 12, up by Randle. 12 is out in Randle and Packwood, with some evacuations. The Cowlitz has significantly re-routed. From the sound of it, people up there are being hauled out by Zodiac.
Dad says that the Ohop Valley is flooded at 7, but sil says it's fine at 161. I don't know if anyone has been out to Mineral Creek yet.
V. useful NOAA website:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/index.php?zone=waz519&county=wac041&wfo=sew&dgtl=1&lat=46.71722&lon=-122.17972 I think that's about all the drama until Friday, when the next major front rolls through. Until then, there is light rain and possibly snow, as the snow level drops to 2000 feet. That means when the next wet, warm front rolls it, it will not only rain, it will melt whatever has snowed below 10,000 feet.
I think the kids and I are STAYING HOME this weekend.
