I highly suggest this post to all to read. Fairly trenchant observation on the violent nature of American culture and the general inability to realize the potential root cause of the killings at VA Tech when mourning. Imomus argues that we live in a society which glorifies violence and which attaches such symbolic resonance to guns that they become "an aesthetic in the US, a vision of beauty and social power." Crazy kid who snapped? Maybe. An inherent (and historically) violent society and media which influences people's behavior? I think so. check out: "The problem lays a floral wreath at the grave of the problem", or get to this lj through my friends page.
