Uhm...when you go into crowds and meet other people, you are exposing them to the risk of catching strep. And since it's not as simple a problem as the common cold, you should do your civic duty and stay home! I know that I wouldn't take the risk (even if it's a smaller risk that "most people think"), especially since I don't have health insurance right now (haha, we in the bay area are all living on the edge!). So, until you've been on antibiotics for more than 2 days, don't go out.
Trust the CDC and the NIH on this, you should stay at home for the first few days. (though I'm hoping you already did right? =D). Besides, your doctor may be referring to the fact that most people think that just touching someone with strep will infect them. But, strep is STILL very contagious. At least as much, or more so than the common cold. The fact that your doctor prescribed antibiotics already means you have a pretty bad case of it. Staying at home and taking it easy is also very good for you, and will speed recovery.
Also buy a new toothbrush as soon as you stop feeling sick, but keep taking your antibiotics for a day. Because you can get reinfected. And keep your toothbrushes separate from people who don't have it. Otherwise they can get it too!
GOD liz! Strep is like the plague! If you go out before your antibiotics kick in, the chances of you infecting, like, the entire Bay Area with your germs are 98.99%! Show concern for your fellow man!
LOL well I'm just saying that it's pretty contagious, and if you for instance, infect mike, there's a good chance he will infect you right on back. SO. You know, it's better to be careful!
Relax, I already got the plague reaction from someone at work and now that I've been on the meds for 48 hours I'm good. And I'm washing all my dishes with a bleach solution to kill the bacteria. But I did have to go to work yesterday. And then I promptly left two hours into the work day.

Anyway, good luck and get better! ^____^
