BLOGATHON PLEDGE POST

WHAT: Blogathon! I stay up for twenty-four hours, posting every half-hour, to raise money for charity.
WHEN: This Saturday, starting 9 AM EST. Yup, that's soon!
WHERE: With shadesong and the other members of Team Venture. We don't just blog, we have a party!
WHO: Heifer Project International is my charity of choice for this year!
WHY: HPI is dedicated to relieving international poverty on the "teach a man to fish" principle: they give livestock to families in need, along with the knowledge needed to get the most of out it. And as families breed livestock, they are obligated to pass on the offspring to other families in their community, spreading the gift.

HOW MUCH: So the first year I did this, I raised $200-ish. Second year, $400-ish. I'd like to aim a little higher, even though I'm starting fundraising so late: My goal is $500! For HPI, that's enough to fund a heifer. Or two water buffaloes. Or a Knitting Basket: two llamas and two sheep, chosen for their wool. Or twenty five flocks of chicks or ducklings.
WHAT I'M WRITING: Every year, for Blogathon, I do a major writing project, written and posted throughout those twenty-four hours. Because, yup, I can produce about 9,000-10,000 words of material in that time. This year, I will be starting a far larger project that is chewing on my skull: a novelization of the Xenosaga games, incorporating the obscure background material only available in fan translations, because that story and those characters are too AWESOME not to share. Epic space opera shall ensue! I may also diversify with a few unrelated ficlets, especially upon request from donors.
SO: Blogathon! I sell it with fluffy animals! I sell it with space opera! I sell it with Queen Latifah's boobs! Pledge!
