BTW, you can probably get around it refusing to take photos in autofocus mode unless it gets focus confirmation. I shoot Canon, so I'm not sure what the appropriate magic words are, but I'm sure they exist. "Release priority" vs. "focus priority" are the conceptual terms.
I'm guessing the 55-200 is the f/4.0-5.6 VR version? I've heard that's a good lens for a very good price. I'd probably pick it up but, well, Canon. Plus I'm addicted to fast glass. It's an expensive addiction. :(
