Fragment - For Sale

In a cold, mechanized world that had traded its soul for impermanent things, there lived a seer who channeled other worlds. A decade of visions had shown her that life in other worlds--even those that boasted more artistry, beauty and vibrancy than her own--tended to be in other ways as harsh and cruel as life in her own. Nonetheless, having endured great pain and betrayal in equal measures, she sought solace often in watching the lives of the friends and family she couldn't have--the noble people she saw in distant universes.

The seer was in possession of something which was very rare in any world, which was true friendship. Yet as time ground on, she was surprised and disheartened to find that while her friends gave her immeasurable joy and love, the part of her that was discontent could not be cured of its sorrow and pain and loneliness. The seer knew that most souls are broken into numerous fragments, scattered across places, people, and events, throughout time, space and possibility, but the seer felt more fragmented than most. She railed against her discontentment and heartbreak, wondering why it would not heal.

The one night the seer had a vision, and one of the beings she watched spoke to her directly:

"... You will never be complete. A part of you will always want for release, for some kind of counterpart, for a mode of expression in a passionless, mundane world that staunches magick and smothers possibility. Get over it. This is the part of you that enables you to do what others can't, or won't--that expresses itself and finds release through the unnatural, that rearranges the puzzle instead of fits into it ...

That fragment of you, finds its home in Me."

And the seer understood that without that fragmentation, she could not see other worlds, possible or actual, and without her discontent, she could not create new possibilities either, or have found the friendship and love she had in this life. That the key to magick was held in the most bereaved parts of her soul, and that however far away they might be, that they were loved too.
