No I definitely feel the first option, with Sam milking it for all he's worth, whilst at the same time not actually blaming Dean, although obviously Dean will be doing enough of that himself.
I loved the idea of the brothers' different default settings. This was a cute fic!

Haha, yeah, poor Dean. Not his fault the beast wasn't thick enough, but you know every time Sam so much as twitches during his convalescence Dean'll be doing his best Florence Nightingale.

That was a very cute little snippet, saying a lot with only a few words. And I vote for the first option ^^

It was a good thing you didn't warn for character death, because I wouldn't have read the fic if you did.

Yay first option! Thank you for commenting and your opinion on the warning issue. I knew there would be a lot of people who would skip it if I warned for death, but it's never been a deathfic to me, just a snippet like you said, so I hoped I was okay.

I loved this! Especially because "shit" is my default word too... I say it every time I get thrown from a horse -- usually it's "Shhhhh---IT" The "IT" part coming out as a whoosh when I hit whatever stops me... (it's, surprisingly, not always the ground...). I totally assumed that it was NOT a fatal gunshot wound. I was a bit disappointed that you ended it there... LOL! And I agree that Dean would be wallowing in guilt... pretty much forever...

Shit is a great default, isn't it? I just know that if SPN were on cable Dean would have a mouth like a sailor.
I hope the ending wasn't too abrupt; I kinda wanted to continue but I'd written what I set out to write and if I'd tried to make it longer it probably never would've gotten posted. I have issues getting things done.

Thanks for commenting, and BTW, I'm now laughing picturing all the things you can hit flying off a horse.

I agree -- Dean would definitely be a curser! Although, if you can believe it, I've seen people complain when he curses in a fic!!! Sometimes I wonder if there is more than ONE SPN airing on tv...

HAHAHAHAHA. Yes, that is me, laughing at your pain. I myself have been thrown from a horse more than once, but I've never lost any clothes in the process. That's a level of horse(wo)manship I can only aspire to. ;)

Oh man, they complain? I guess I got it all wrong then and Dean is actually a dainty lady on the inside who secretly blushes each time circumstances *force* him to call someone a bitch or slut. He didn't mean it Ruby! Come back! Can't you see the delicate pink that stains his cheeks? (Okay, stopping now before the sarcasm shrivels my heart any blacker. I grew up in a swearing household so I guess I have my own biases.)

Okay, I'm two for two today. First, I got to read Duckie's wonderful fic on LJ and now this. Perfect example of how a story doesn't have to take chapter after chapter to tell. You aren't flowery and overdone. You have the voices perfect. You left me with a hard punch to my gut, just like Supernatural does. Fandamntastic.

Thank you so so much for this sweet and thoughtful comment. Seriously, it's left me grinning like a fool every time I reread it. I put a lot of time and effort into this for such a short little thing, so it means the world to me that it worked so well for you.

P.S. I'm always looking for fic recs. Would you mind pointing me in the direction of this Duckie story you mentioned if you have a spare minute?
