Given that UK people can visit Aus without a visa (up to 90 days) I'd be amazed if someone on an Aus passport needs a visa for a short visit. These things are almost always reciprocal.

It's fear of the unknown :) I've always travelled there on my UK passport and not needed the visa! I should check where to apply for it at least..

There's nothing to apply for! You don't need a visa.

You're exactly correct. No visa is required. It's not quite reciprocal - British people visiting Australia need to apply for an ETA, which isn't a visa, but is a similar amount of faff to obtain. I'm pretty sure Australians travelling to Britain can just turn up at the airport. You will get sent to the longer queues at passport control, however.

Apparently these days you can get an eVisitor thingy instead from here: http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/evisitor.htm which is free (ETA is 20AU$). But this is not relevant to wintrmute, obv :)
