'Tatta Hitotsu no Koi' and 'Veronica Mars'

Yum! Hot congee with squid, pork and peanuts eaten out of a paper cup=comforted me. Add a large cafe mocha to that, and I'm as well as can be expected today! :) On Monday I mentioned that I had a nasty sore throat, etc. Well, by Monday night it had indeed turned into a cold and I felt increasingly worse, which was only exacerbated by the 45 minutes of sleep I got Monday night/ Tues. morning. Yesterday was spent in a kind of haze as I both struggled to stay awake and also to concentrate on projects that required my careful attention. I'm not sure how I got through the day, but as soon as I could leave (sixish) I made a beeline for home, had some soup (I was so hungry I ate an entire giant container of Hong Kong style nooodle soup with shrimp dumplings), took a Benadryl, and went to bed. I'm still waking up at 4 a.m., but at least I slept straight through until then! and I feel much better. The icky "sick" feeling is gone, the congestion has not gotten worse, and although I'm quite tired and groggy, I have a hope that the cold will not worsen.

ETA:I'm sure this is not an original thought, but yesterday, it occurred to me to wonder how long Jin's departure has been in the works...because of the letter he read during 24Hour TV. Ignore this: I was just seeing the light after being uber-cynical.

I watched Tatta Hitotsu no Koi with the subs, and I like it. I really like Kame's acting and the little notes he's given his character from Hiroto's tough bravado to the tiny subtleties in his face and posture to show how he reacts to Nao. So he's a jerk. A hardened, bitter cynic who wears the chip on his shoulder rather proudly...I can't wait until we find out more on why he became so dark.

One thing that made me so sad was Hiroto's voiceover in the beginning about how uncool the three guys are - he really doesn't see any hope for them to better themselves - they'll never amount to more than they are right now, and he sees himself and his friends as losers.

I do like Ayase's Nao - although, I'm really struggling with how much she reminds me of Jin. It's not that she looks exactly like him or anything, but there is something about her that reminds me of Jin and it makes me feel very weird when I see them together.

I do wonder how his brother ended up in a wheelchair - through illness or an accident? The way Hiroto is with Ren is gorgeous - he is so gentle and thoughtful. When he mutters to himself in annoyance at his mother, and notices that Ren is listening, his entire demeanor changes in a flash to one of kindness and warmth.

In my kitchen geekish-ness, I noticed something else. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Kame breaks an egg into the frying pan with only one hand! Yes, I know, that's a stupid thing to notice, but it just makes me love Kame even more.

I love the music - the instrumental theme that runs through the episode is haunting and beautiful and I like it more than "Pure One." Speaking of "Pure One," I love the sustained guitar note intro to the song. It's my favorite part of the song, believe it or not because I always find that sound to be very haunting, in any song.

I wish I had more intelligent comments, but I'm too tired to write anything very analytical. I liked it. I want to see more. It looks like it's going to be very sad, and I'm already steeling myself for Nao's fate, but I wonder about Hiroto, whether he will live or die. I found myself analyzing his voiceover in the beginning in order to guess whether he will die or not.

I also caught up on Veronica Mars 3x03, and I loved it! Best part? The realistic portrayal of Veronica & Logan's relationship and of her issues. Wow, that part made me really, really happy and the end was lovely. Also I liked the football player so much - his voice reminded me of Matthew Macfadyen and I loved that he wasn't a stereotypical jock, but a true student-athlete. Also loved all the Weevil-ly bits. Nice.

I'm struggling to keep up with comments and replies, so bear with me while I catch up! :)
