Made in Hong Kong, part 1: Interview with Tony Leung

When I went to see Perhaps Love last night at the Freer/Sackler Galleries, which together comprise the Smithsonian Museums of Asian Art (my favorite DC museums) at the 11th Annual Hong Kong Film Festival, they had a lovely booklet, Made in Hong Kong, that has some nice material in it. I will be transcribing the contents because I think they might ( Read more... )

Tony Leung! ♥
I adore this man.

I've seen several of Wong Kar Wai's movies, not Happy Together though. I should look it up.

Tony's awesome. I'm assuming you've seen Chungking Expess? He's hilarious in that.

Yes, I fell in love with him because of Chungking Express... It's the first movie with him I saw.

Tony Leung is a great actor...one of my favorite ones from HK. Unfortunately, I haven't seen 2046 yet. The last movie I saw was Infernal Affairs III, the first of the series still has to be the best though.

I'm still a sucker for some of the younger actors though like Daniel Wu, Stephen Fung, Nicholas Tse, Shawn Yue, and Edison Chen. I seem to love to watch anything with them despite how bad the movie might be.

Ah, thank you for this. Leung has always seemed like a strangely aloof and enigmatic man but I've always assumed that anyone who works with WKW so much must be a wee bit quirky. I mean most actors get frustrated that they have no idea what the storyline is, what the plot is - that it will all be cut together by WKW right at the end yet Tony Leung trusts him so implicitly and keeps working with him.

Yes, I thought it was neat also how Tony has this perfecct trust and faith in WKW. It can't be easy to work with him, but Tony ha found a way.
