Crap on a spatula, it's Sunday already? (Sunday Recs!)

Apr 03, 2011 02:50

It was a pretty stressful work week for me, which means I didn't get in as much reading time :(  I still have a couple new recs for you guys, though, and I threw in a few older, less known stories that I think are well worth your time.  Happy reading!

And I Might Never Leave Again by twentysomething  |  Parks & Recreation (Ben/Leslie)  |  3,300 words
Summary: "Is the water working in the rest of the house?" he asks, his padfolio slipping off his lap onto the couch. Leslie frowns.  "Yeah, more or less," Leslie says slowly, not really sure where he's going with this. Ben shrugs again.  "You want me to take a look at it?" he offers."
Why you should read this: This is the last thing I read this week, and coincidentally my favorite story of the week.  Handyman!Ben! I'm a pretty big sucker for domesticity fic, and this is full of little details that breathe life into Ben and Leslie and their lives in Pawnee. And don't get me wrong, I love anticipation and pining, but the way this story emphasized how comfortable they already are together was a nice change and made me sigh with happiness.

All's Faire by lisztful  | Merlin (Arthur/Merlin) |  6,000 words
Summary: Modern day, Ren Faire AU
Why you should read this:  This is by the amazing lisztful, one of my very favorite authors in the Merlin fandom, period. This was posted on the kinkmeme, however, and never reposted to her journal so I didn't see it for a long time.  Arthur and  Merlin (and the gang) work at an annual Renaissance Faire, Merlin as the costume director and Arthur playing a knight.  This has such a quietly intense atmosphere and she writes one of my favorite Arthurs, ever.  He's a little prickly, yet lionhearted, and it feels so right the way he and Merlin drift together.  Really lovely.

Ten Cups of Coffee (A Love Story) by passe_simple  |  The Social Network RPS (Andrew/Jesse) | 10,000 words
Summary: Starbucks AU
Why you should read this: I swear, this author is systematically going through my list of bullet-proof AU cliches and writing the most adorably endearing versions ever.  I mean, coffeeshop AU? I'm so there.  Jesse takes haven in a Starbucks to write his thesis paper where a cheerfully charming barista by the name of Andrew just happens to work.  We all know how this is going to end, sure, but the beauty is in the flirting and confusion about flirting and how sweet it all goes down.

Just Want You Back For Good
by hollycomb  |  Supernatural/Ghostfacers (Ed/Corbett)  |  24,000 words
Summary: AU -- Corbett didn't really die, Daggett's ghost just wanted the team to think that he had. Now Ed has to deal with his obsession with Corbett's safety, post-Morton house.
Why you should read this: Ok, so.  Sam and Dean aren't even in this, at all, it's an AU of the Ghostfacers episode and omg, it's amazing!  It starts where the episode leaves off, except Corbett is alive and Ed has to deal with some feelings he didn't know he had when Corbett parents kick him out and he moves into Ed's basement.  Even if you barely remember the episode, I BEG you to read this. It's funny and heartbreaking and hot and so emotionally satisfying.  I've read it at least 10 times, no lie.
