...and of course, i turned it into unrequited shuuji love rather than nobuta. oh dear.
Why Mariko Loves Nobuta
Mariko loves Nobuta quietly, because she once loved Shuuji loudly, brightly, honestly and Shuuji didn't love her back. She still does love him, because Shuuji is Shuuji and people fall in love with Shuuji so easily (and it's very hard to fall out of love with him and Mariko's tried).
But Mariko loves Nobuta fiercely and without reserve because Nobuta is strong, Nobuta is clever, Nobuta is beautiful, Nobuta is not Shuuji, and Nobuta won't break her heart like Shuuji did.
This is beautiful! Seriously, this has brightened my day so much (and I really needed that today, so it's doubly appreciated). I can see all three of them in this so clearly. Thank you!
There was always a metaphorical heart in every band. One that held them together; one that made them, them. Ryo was not that heart. Neither was Yasu. Kanjani8 didn't have one heart. They weren't that kind of band.
But if they had, Ryo imagined it would be like Yasu's. Big and as open as it could be. Yasu's heart would be the warmest and brightest because Yasu loved everyone, equally and without doubt.
I don't know how I missed this before, but thank you so much for it! I love the idea of Ryo understanding and appreciating Yasu for the things that make him different from most people.
Why Mariko loves Nobuta.
Why Ryo loves Yasu.

Nobuta's too kind for that and Mariko is glad.
