Food for thought.

I find it interesting that people complained about the cost of the war in Iraq...yet we (as a government) have already spent (assuming the bill is signed) more this year than we've spent in Iraq since 2003.

Let me reiterate. 5+ Years In Iraq < Obama's first 25 days in office ( Read more... )

I agree. I think the only way to stabilize the economy is to just let the bubble "pop" so to speak. I know they're trying to avoid another Great Depression--but all this is going to do ultimately is cause mass inflation and the banks might wind up going under anyway. =\

We wouldn't be in this problem if people and businesses lived within their means either (lived with no debt). It's quite simple really--spend only what you make, and be sure to save some of that $! No credit cards or loans!

Besides the amount, I think it's also important to consider what you're getting for the money. (I'm not implying that we got nothing in Iraq, although I think so, and I'm not implying that we're getting anything with the stimulus bill, although we might.) In some ways, though, this is like asking which is a more responsible purchase and which is more frivolous - a good $100 winter coat or $5 in quarters playing Pac-Man (or whatever the kids play nowadays).

I don't like the amount that they're spending either, but they are obeying a formula of sorts - it's not just random.

For the most part, a good portion of the Iraq War bill has gone into the US economy - defense sector businesses at least - and pay for troops. Some has gone to Iraq infrastructure, but a good portion remains in the US economy.

Same with the stimulus package.

The only difference is there'll be less bullets flying with the stimulus bill...or at least one hopes so. :-)

Ah yes. But from that money, we have a big fat Halliburton, and some (possibly not so) well-fed families of troops. However, in theory, the stumulus package will get us things like improved education, fixed roads, stable bridges...
