They're not OMGBFFFs, but they don't hate each other as much as they pretend to for the viewers.
But who Johnny really wants is Stephane. He just thinks that Stephane doesn't LIKE him, like him and is just charming and european.
Stephane on the other hand, Thinks Johnny is crushing on Evan but that he doesn't want to make a move on a straight guy. But Stephane can tell Evan is not the hetero hero he makes himself out to be, which only leands him to thinking he want Johnny too. Stephane is afraid that the two will eventually realize their mutual love for each other, so he tries to get in the way as much as possible and flares up in jealousy every time they do something even remotely couple-y and attempts to one-up Evan at every turn.
Despite not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, Evan gets it before anyone else does.
