Interesting fact from my environmental science class today:
If the world doesn't stabilize CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gas emissions in the next 10 years scientists believe we will then be past the point of no returns and will be facing a drastically changing earth different then one the humans have ever lived on before (like with higher sea levels).
Scary isn't it. We have to do something and we have to do it now.... It we continue at our current trends they estimate a approximately 3 degree warming globally. Now many of you may think thats sounds paltry and insignificant but that small change would mean sea level rise putting many coastal areas (even large populations) underwater as well as a 50% increase in extinction rates in plants and animals. Also more extreme weather patterns, glacial retreat, and a myriad of other peoples such as drought and water shortages. Also some area will have much more severe problems then other. If we continue our current trend California could be 8-10.5 degree warmer not the global average of 3. And the most effected areas? Around the latitudes of 45. Heads up everyone!
So thats my antidote for the day. Many more to follow. Do your part! Conserve energy! Why drive if you can walk or bike? Turn off the water when your not using it, turn off the light when you leave the room. Little things help you (save money) and help our planet!
