Summary: The TARDIS Jack ran into wasn't quite the right one.
“It was a mistake.“
The Doctor raised his eyebrows. “Obviously.”
“I mistook him for someone else.”
“And this ship with another time-space capsule that happens to come in the shape of a blue police box, I suppose.”
“In a manner of speaking, I did. Well, kind of.”
It wasn’t hard to follow what he was talking about.
“Anyway, it wasn’t him I intended to jump.”
“Then why are you still sitting on him?”
The man on the floor blinked innocently. “Because he’s comfortable.”
“No, he’s not. I’ve sat on him a couple of times, and I know he’s knobbly and hard.” The Doctor hesitated for a second, then added, “Sorry, Fitz. No offense meant.”
“None taken,” came the muffled voice from beneath the stranger. “If it keeps people from using me as furniture more often, I don’t mind.”
“Which brings us back to the problem at hand,” the Doctor said.
“Which would be?” asked the man.
“You are still sitting on my companion.”
“Right.” He got up, and so did Fitz, who stumbled away to heroically hide behind the Time Lord, from where he stared at the stranger. The stranger looked back, in a somewhat more civilized manner that was belied by his appearance. His eyes travelled between both of them, but came to rest on the Doctor rather quickly. And rather intently.
Fitz shifted uneasily.
“I only saw that leather jacket. Should have looked at the head poking out as well.”
“Well, clothes are difficult to handle if you’re not used to them,” commented Fitz, who was still staring. It reminded the Doctor of the question why this man had gotten a key to the TARDIS, and where he kept it.
“I want that jacket,” the man proclaimed.
“You’re not getting it,” said Fitz.
“I know. It’s reserved for the Doctor.”
The Doctor turned to look at Fitz, and his jacket. “Fitz is going to give me his lucky coat? But I don’t even like it!”
“Tough. You’ll get it anyway. It’ll suit you.”
“Stop telling me this. I’m not supposed to know yet.”
“Wait a second,” Fitz demanded. “You wanted to jump the Doctor? And then you tried?”
“Yes,” the stranger said, quite satisfied.
“Hm.” Fitz seemed to think about this.
“Whatever you were trying to do, you failed,” the Doctor pointed out, his arms still crossed before his chest.
“You’re right.” The man didn’t seem too sad about it. “I will try again at a more appropriate time for you.”
“You do that,” the Doctor agreed, somewhat apprehensive of what the future might hold for him. “You want me to drop you off somewhere?” he offered when the man turned to leave. “The people might wonder why you are running across the Millennium square naked, in December.”
“They didn’t mind all the other times I’ve done it.”
The Doctor couldn’t argue with that.
Fitz was still staring.
The potted plant in the corner gave noise.
“We’ll meet again, Doctor, at some point when you are wearing that jacket, and later when you are not. For now, it’s enough for me to have been the strangest thing that happened to you today.” The naked man came back to the console, pulled the Doctor into a kiss - with tongue, no less - and then he left the TARDIS and walked out into the bright Cardiff sunshine that reflected off his bare buttocks.
Fitz was still staring, and slightly red.
The potted plant that currently hosted a part of Anji’s personality made a little noise of protest. Apparently she wanted to be fed, while the plants hosting the other parts of her were up on the attic playing ball.
“Strangest thing?” the Doctor muttered with a grimace. “My friend, you’re not even close.”
