Line Dancing
Draw me a line, I’ll dance along it,
feet that flicker like flames will sear it
in flesh or stone. There’s a web of such lines,
glittering like a constellation,
mapping my life by boundaries crossed.
When you’re running alone, relativity
moves the lines so that they cross you.
Your passing gravity knocked me from orbit,
love created a place to stand
outside of myself. The lines stood still.
There wasn’t one that I wouldn’t have crossed
when nobody cared; I was passing through.
Slightly less selfish, a lot more afraid,
I’m learning which lines to dance within,
and which to cross, running hand in hand.
