Title: A New Divide (1/?)
Author: winteraconite
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: Injured!Steve, Thor/Steve, Tony+Steve "With everyone showing concern in their own way because who DOESN'T love, Steve? I say Tony+Steve because Tony obviously likes Steve, but its Thor who ultimately wins."
A/N: Movie-verse. Takes place after they capture Loki in Stark Towers. Haven't written in ages (like...2 years?) and this is my first time writing in the Marvel Universe so bear with me.
Disclaimer: I do not own Marvel or the Avengers or any of its sexy characters. I just borrow them and make them do my nasty bidding. They like it. A lot. >:)

No one was paying any attention to Captain America in particular when all the strength suddenly seemed to leave his body. It happened so fast that none of them could really make sense of what was going on.

Now they all knew Thor was fast; some of them had been on the receiving end of that speed-and strength-before, but none of them had ever seen the god move as quickly as he did the moment Steve seemed to lose his balance and pitch forward where he stood.

“Captain!” Thor caught him in his arms before he could hit the ground, and Steve groaned as if in immense pain. His shield hit the marble floor of Stark Tower’s now ruined apartments with a loud clang as he sagged against the Asgardian.

Tony was the next fastest person to react. “What is it? What’s wrong with him?”

“What have you done?!” Thor roared at the now captive Loki. By now the others were gathered around them with their weapons at the ready. All of them were pointed at the dark-haired god who glared at them defiantly.

“This is not my doing,” the Juton hissed.

Thor’s blue eyes glowered with rage, but he shouted for the others to stop as they moved in on his brother. “Loki speaks the truth. I can sense no trace of his magic at work here.” In his arms, Steve groaned again and breathed harshly through gritted teeth. His face was pale and tight with pain.

“What-” Steve gasped, struggling to form the words. He felt pain concentrated somewhere deep inside him, burning outward until it felt like he was on fire-like he was burning from the inside. “What’s happening to me?”

Tony got down on one knee beside Thor and looked their comrade over. Steve was obviously in a lot of pain, but he couldn’t figure out why. There were several scorch marks and scratches on his suit and body, but nothing that looked like it would cause him this amount of pain.

Clint hunkered down beside him and pressed two fingers against the side of Steve’s neck. “Pupils, constricted. Pulse, erratic. I don’t know what it is, but we need to get him to the medical bay.”

“The Helicarrier is on its way here,” Natasha told them, but Tony shook his head.

“It won’t get here fast enough. We don’t know if we can wait for them to get here. We’ve got to get Cap to them. Give him here,” he told Thor, but the Asgardian rose, pulling Steve up with him.

“Wait-” Steve gasped as he struggled to pull his own weight and stay balanced, but it seemed like all he could do was hold on. His vision swam, his ears were ringing, and he felt like he was going to be sick. Every muscle in his body ached. He was almost doubling over in pain.

Noticing Steve’s distress, Thor adjusted his grip on him so that he could take more of the Captain’s weight.

“Nay, I will take him,” Thor said. “I am the faster flyer.”

“Sure, leave us to babysit your brother.” Tony went on, rolling his eyes. “Yeah, I don’t think so.” Then he turned to Thor and glared. “Look, you fly with one hand on your hammer and he can barely hang on as it is. You’ll drop him!”

“And you will burn him with the flames that come from your hands!” Thor straightened to his full height and towered over Tony. His power and anger rolled off him in waves, and he looked bigger and more formidable than ever. Steve looked like a small ragdoll at his side in comparison.

Truth be told, after had yelled at his brother, thinking he was responsible for what was happening to Steve, Thor had all but forgotten about Loki. Steve’s condition baffled him and he didn’t know what was happening, but every fibre of his being told him he had to get Steve the help he needed. And every moment spent arguing with the hot-tempered Tony Stark was not helping his cause.

“Don’t,” Steve grit out, still trying to stand unaided. “Don’t fight now...” Now that we’ve won, now that it’s over...

“We’re wasting time.” Natasha said suddenly, breaking the tension between god and man. “The Helicarrier is about two hundred miles East South East from here and Cap needs medical help ASAP.” She reloaded her pistol a snap before turning to Thor. “We’ve got Loki covered. You should go. Now.”

She glared at Tony, who backed down, but not without one last heated glare of his own at the Asgardian. Thor ignored him and gently guided Steve toward the balcony. Without turning, he spoke to Loki, his voice cold and commanding. “Brother, do not get ideas. If you run again, I will find you. And if I do not, that only means the Chitauri did first.”

The threat in his words was unmistakable, but Loki did well to hide the shiver that crawled up his spine.

Beside Thor, Steve turned and called out to Tony and the others. “I’m sorry, I-”

“Don’t be,” Tony said, immediately cutting him off. “We’re right behind ya.”

Clint and Natasha nodded and Steve managed a small, brave smile. “Guess I’ll have to take a rain check on that shawarma,” he said through gritted teeth.

Tony scoffed and shook his head at the blond before turning to Natasha. “Let Fury know they’re coming, and tell them to ready the medical bay.”

“Hold on to me as best you can,” Thor instructed Steve, tightening his own grip on the man. Then he started to spin Mjolnir by the leather strap in his hand to gather momentum.

Steve held on to Thor with what little strength he had left, trying to do all he could to make this easier. Normally, he would never agree to leave the battle field first. He was a Captain; first one in, last one out. That was his policy. But this time was different. He had never felt such pain before-not when he ran through snow and fire in Europe, not even when he crashed into ice and metal. He would be of no further use here.

And he was terrified.

“Ready,” he told the god. Then he ducked his head and closed his eyes.

Behind the two Tony called out a “don’t drop him” with a sneer though the light in his eyes betrayed a very real concern, while Natasha and Clint shook their heads at the man and his pettiness. Nobody saw it, but Thor scowled before he smirked and purposely shot through the last remaining glass window in Tony’s apartment, shattering it completely.

It didn’t take Thor too long to get to the Helicarrier, but Steve was as cold and pale as death by the time they landed. He had lost consciousness in midflight and was now silent and unmoving in the Asgardian’s arms.

“I need a healer,” the god bellowed at the crewmen rushing toward them. The deck was bustling with activity at their arrival. Agent Maria Hill herself accompanied the medics on the tarmac, barking out orders.

“He was in pain,” Thor told her as soon as she reached him and Steve. “And now he will not wake.”

She took one look at him and nodded. “Put him on the gurney,” she instructed. “Clear the area!” she ordered anybody who wasn’t directly involved in transporting Steve to the medical bay before contacting Nick Fury through the communicator. “Sir, we’ve got Rogers. We’re headed your way.” She was well aware of Thor’s massive form behind her. They didn’t speak and the air was tense, but they continued to follow Steve’s gurney in silence.

Until they took what Thor perceived to be the wrong turn.

He turned to Hill in an instant and found the barrel of her pistol not two inches from his face. In front of them, the medics continued to wheel Steve away unfazed.

“This is not the way to where you treat your wounded!” Thor roared, but Hill stood her ground.

“You don’t have clearance to proceed any further than this. I know this won’t make even the slightest scratch on you, but I have my orders,” she said. “If you value the life and safety of Captain Steve Rogers you’ll stand down and let us handle it.”

She kept her weapon steady and her blue eyes were intense. She would open fire if she had to, futile as it was, and Thor admired her courage and slowly lowered Mjolnir from where he had it poised inches over her skull.

“Captain Rogers is a valued soldier and ally,” she continued, lowering her weapon. “Directory Fury would never let any harm come to him. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.”

To this Thor scoffed and shook his head. “Your faith in your commander is admirable, but I have seen the ways of humans and they leave much to be desired.”

“We’re prepared to do the best we can-”

“And what if it is not enough?” Thor asked in a tone that cut Hill short midsentence. “Where are you taking him? If you will not tell me, woman, I will find out for myself.” He tightened his grip on Mjolnir and felt the burn of shame on him for threatening a woman, but he needed to be where Steve was and she was in the way.

“He is my comrade, my brother in arms,” he continued. “I’ll not leave his side, and you cannot make me.”

There was a long moment of silence as Hill seemed to consider his words. Then she spoke into her communicator. “Sir, did you get all that?” She said, keeping her eyes on the Asgardian. It had to be Fury on the other end of the line. There was a short pause before Agent Hill muttered an affirmative and levelled Thor with a scorching glare. “Follow me,” she said, turning and walking briskly in the direction the medics had taken Steve.

Thor watched her go for a moment, muttering Asgardian oaths under his breath, before striding down the corridors and following her into the laboratories.
