Is it just me ...
Is it just me or Torchwood a helluva lot like Firefly? I was reccently introduced to it and the whole time I was thinking OMG Mal/Simon this is looking a lot like Torchwood. A lot like Torchwood.
Firstly, characters.
Jack = Mal (obviously, they're both captains, but also lonely, make amusing remarks and both wear frikkin braces)
Gwen = Inara Zoe (both second in command, strong women, married)
Rhys = Wash (funny, down to earth, married, cleverer than people give them credit for)
Owen = Jayne (hired muscle, least caring, most likely to cause Mal problems. Mal doesn't trust Jayne and Owen betrays Jack in seies 1)
Tosh = Kaylee (Pretty, lusting after the medic, naturally gifted in fixing machines and technology)
Ianto = Simon (Smartly dressed, polite, hiding crazy women. There's even an episode of Firefly where the team are playing basketball and Simon isn't joining in. Remind you of anything?)
Lisa = River (she isn't Ianto's sister, but she is crazy)
Episodes:
Fragments = Out of Gas (how the team got together as told through Flashbacks)
Random bits:
Jayne names his gun 'Vera'. This name crops up in KKBB when John tells Gwen he could call him 'vera'.
Mrs Reynolds uses a poison on her lips to paralyse Mal, just like John does with Gwen in KKBB.
Personally, I think Firefly does it muuuch better. They have fewer episodes and more characters and yet the characters are all well drawn, and I've never felt that one character was being given all the attention at the expense of others. cough Gwen cough.
