day 13 → a fictional book
Oh my, the choices, the choices!
In His Majesty's Service by Naomi Novik. What's not to love? England! Dragon's! Napoleonic era! It's like she hit all my hot buttons in one novel! :)
day 14 → a non-fictional book
I don't actually read a lot of non-fiction. Hey wait - does the LOTR visual dictionary count? no? hmm..
This is one of the few I own.
As Always, Jack: A Wartime Love Story by Emma Sweeney on Amazon. I actually read a review of it in a magazine my mom had, a very short blurb that sounded interesting. Interesting enough to check out at a book store. After much searching (because I only sorta remembered the info and didn't have the magazine to check), I was able to find it and I've since read it several times, tearing up each time. It's basically a romance told via letters written by a soldier to a girl from San Diego he met before being shipped off just after WWII. You only have the soldiers letters, and not the replies and this was lovingly laid out by the daughter he never got to meet.
I tried to save to upload a pic of the covers...... and that flash thing gets me every time. It's getting frustrating that I can't click on the pictures to save them. What, they'd rather be hotlinked??
