I was standing in the garage staring out at the gray drizzle when I saw an inpromptu parade, so I ran and grabbed my camera.
This ibis flock lives in our neighborhood. If they're not flying past overhead, they're usually seen standing around on someone's lawn poking holes in the ground looking for bugs. Hence the neighborhood kids' nickname for them- the pokey birds. But for some reason today the pokeys were sauntering down the middle of the street. Appearing to have all the time in the world for their constitutional, they didn't seem to mind sharing the street with a couple of skateboarders.
Strung across three yards, the lead portion of the dozen bird parade stopped and milled about for a couple moments in front of my mailbox planter. I kept waiting for them to unfurl some sort of banner. Maybe proclaiming a bird's right to live free, or perhaps an ode to the enjoyment of al fresco dining. In the end the parade regrouped and moved on down the street. I suppose they must of had plans to eat at the end of the route.
