goats!

In the interest of the food coop, I got to hang out with the goats (and ducks, chickens, sheep, a pony and a donkey) at the Spitalfields City Farm this morning. This is a special little corner of London. Think raised beds for growing vegetables surrounded by paths containing disused railroad tracks.

The food coop is going to start sourcing as much food from the farm as possible so I got to go along and pick some amazing looking chard and spinach. Soon we will be able to get coriander (cilantro), onions and garlic that only have to travel about a quarter of a mile on a trike to get to us.

I also had a chance to meet the educational manager of the farm, an Irish woman, in the volunteer lounge. As we excitedly talked about local, seasonal food education and promoting each other's project, a bold chicken walked past us and sat down on one of the comfy chairs and the local kids who volunteer at the farm walked around eating their soup freshly made by the Young Farmer's Club using produce grown on the farm and I thought, these are my fucking people!

It's spring and I'm excited again. It feels really good.
