Hellloooo...

It's been a month since I last updated already - it doesn't seem like a month. My educational endeavors are progressing nicely, even if I am getting gray hair over them (literally - I've plucked out 3 just today...).

I finished a 5 page paper comparing Virgil's Second Eclogue to some of Richard Barnfield's sonnets from Cynthia. It was an interesting paper to write - I haven't written on poetry for a long time. We're currently reading Marlowe's Edward the Second; it's my third time reading this play, and I love it as much now as I did the first time. Actually, I think I love it more - Marlowe's work is so deceptively easy... there's always more there than you think there is.

I'm currently reading Susan Jarratt's Rereading the Sophists, it's a good read so far. Frankly, I'm more of an Isocrates fan than a Plato fan so I don't have a beef with the sophists, but I know there's plenty of people out there who disagree.

The work for this training class for the graduate assistantship is insane. I can't believe how much time it takes and I'm not even working as a GA yet...

I had a pretty good Dressage lesson on a TB named Shadow today. While he was no TJ, he was a good boy. I have to tell you though, that horse's feet felt like they were stuck in a bog - I mean he just slogged along. TJ is older than he is, and has a lot more training, so it stands to reason that he would move better. TJ is very light on his feet and moves with a very consistent rhythm, so getting used to a horse that speeds up and slows down and drags his feet in the mud is pretty weird. However, the trainer gave me some good tips on my position, and reaffirmed to me that my basic seat and position isn't that bad - it just needs a little adjusting here and there, and some refinement. I'm going to think about how often I ride with her... She charges travel time, because she's far away, and I am on a limited budget after all.

Horse show season is almost in full swing - there's several shows I'd like to attend this summer, and there's a Thomas Ritter clinic next month that's not too far away. Now, if only I had a truck and trailer to get TJ there, I'd be set.
