I'm a sucker for a Going Out of Business sale. Recently, I've had three biggies, all located within about a mile of each other (two across the street from each other): my favorite SteinMart, my local Borders (in fact, MOST local Borders), and all Ultimate Electronics. Joe and I had already hit the closest UE a few weeks ago and acquired a Samsung front-loading Washer & Dryer pair in perfect condition for less than $1000 (our old W&D are going on 14 years old and nearing the end of their useful lives).
Today, I went back. The store has two more days to go, so everything is steep discounts - 80% or so for most things. Lots of damaged and out of box items, of course. But I found
this. Out of box, missing one of the small round burner covers (which I'm sure I can order from KitchenAid), but otherwise in perfectly good shape. $220. Problem is that it's 36" and our current cooktop is 30". But this is EXACTLY what I've wanted for years. Joe's going to look at the counter when he gets home to see if it will be feasible to extend the opening. It may not be, because there are drawers underneath the cooktop area rather than cabinets. But fingers are crossed!
