Okay. You give me TEN seconds, and I can come up with a minimum of FIVE great White Sox players from the last 20 years. I am not a White Sox fan. In the same ten seconds, I can ALSO come up with five great Cubs. If you SAY you are a fan, you ought to be able to actually give a name to ONE player - just one. I mean...Frank Thomas? Hey - Mark Buerhle ( Read more... )

Unfortunately for him, he's just not a baseball fan, but he knows that presidents have traditionally endorsed the game, going back to at least Taft. So he knows he has to pretend to be a fan and talk it up and such, but he's so detached, he doesn't even do his homework.

I wouldn't expect him to go all Vin Scully and get as involved as someone like Mario Cuomo or Rudy Giuliani or either of the Presidents Bush could (genuine baseball fans, all), but it goes back to what I said in an earlier comment: this guy doesn't want to actually BE President, he just wanted to BECOME President so he could enjoy all the trappings of the office and have nifty stationery and get on TV a lot and junk. So he goes through a lot of the motions and thinks that's enough, because the genuine nitty-gritty of the office (including being the First Citizen) has always eluded him. He's all sizzle and no steak, and the sizzle is rapidly turning to fizzle.

I said that from the beginning, also - this isn't a guy who wants to BE President. He wants to PLAY President. Problem is that he's ALSO an ideologue, even though he hasn't thought through a lot of the issues he wants to espouse. Which is why he's so awful off prompter.

Oh, also, I probably couldn't name any great White Sox players from the past 20 years, but I don't really follow the AL.

That being said, I could name plenty of Mets players from the '60s to the present day that I really liked, and since Obama claims to be a Sox fan, you'd think he'd be able to do the same.

I can also name a number of NL players I've admired, as well as players from our crosstown rivals, but then, if you can't think of any great Yankees players, you should probably go back under the rock on the desert island where you've spent your entire existence.

Ask me to name a single player from any team in MLB from any time in the last 40 years, and I probably could. Even teams like Tampa Bay.

I wonder if he can name any players from the Oakland As, of whom he purports to have been a fan growing up.
