There are three words that Rex knows the meanings of. (There are probably more, but these I know for sure.)
He knows what "dinner" means. Every night, I ask him if he's ready for his dinner, and every night, he meows at me (as though to answer in the affirmative) and trots to his bathroom (he has his own - his food and litterbox live there so the dogs can't get at them).
He knows "catnip" - when I ask him if he wants some catnip, he meows at me insistently, and stands around the scratching boxes which are the catnip deployment zones.
And he knows "treats" - when I ask him if he wants treats, he goes to the pantry and meows repeatedly at me.
His meowing pattern is different for each word, and he goes to different places for each, even though the catnip and the treats live next to each other in the pantry - I put the treats down on the floor by the pantry, but I put the catnip on the scratching boxes.
