I broke my cat's heart.
I'm putting up my Christmas tree, and he's hiding under it like always. Okay, fine. Annoying, but not a real problem. But then he started chomping on the branches - both destructive and potentially dangerous, since it's a pre-lit tree. So I grabbed him by the scruff and chucked him out of there. He ran right back underneath, so I did it again. And he ran back, so I grabbed him by the scruff before he made it under there and tossed him again. And once more. Finally, he hid in the ribbons and looked at me, scared. I went to pet him, and he bit me. Not hard - more of a nip - but he's never done that before.
He laid down on the other end of the room, so I let him calm down, and went to pet him again. This time, a reproachful look and a very gentle nip.
Poor little guy. I hope he gets the idea not to eat the tree, though.
