A Monthly Challenge Sneak-Peek

I was standing all alone in my basement, the light bulb swinging around my head. Well, that’s where this “story” of mine began. You see, I thought that my life was pretty mediocre. Get up in the morning, shower, eat, go to work, give out grades, teach glee, come back home, eat, kiss Teri goodnight and sleep. Every day. Twenty-four hours. Seven days a week.  Nothing else for me to do for six months of school. Until I thought Teri was out for a month on some shopping spree with her sister. That’s what she said. One month, when I have time off from teaching and running into Sue. No fighting, no biting nails and NO staring in the mirror thinking I just saw some grey hairs. Just four weeks of solitude.

How silly of me.

I was reading my book, I can’t even remember the title now, when I thought I heard something walk down the stairs into my basement. But that’s just ridiculous.

Thump

No one is in the house besides me anyway. I didn’t even hear the door open. Front or basement.

Thump

I could just be tired and hear the blood pumping in my ears.

Thump

Because that is a very logical reason to which I firmly believe in.

Thump

I think I believe in.

Thump

Who is in my house? Why are they going into my basement?

Shuffle

On second thought, stay in the basement! I’m calling the cops. No, I’m getting out of here then calling the cops!

The light...I got up and ran as quietly as I could to get my coat and keys. My hand was on my coat now all I have to find are my-

...Keys.

“…Oh, William...”

…Oh, God.
