It was terrible and not sexy and probably illegal. They hardly ever kissed and they were never obvious but at the end of the day, they were the only ones who could make each other smile, and that was all that mattered.

It started when Will found out about his wife. He was in his office, trying to drown his emotions in grading tests when Finn walked in, shutting the door quietly.

“Mr. Schue?”

The teacher jumped looking up from the pile of papers to see the tall boy standing awkwardly by the door.

“Oh, Finn. What’s up?”

“Nothing just…” He inched closer to the desk. “How are you doing?”

“I’m fine Finn. Don’t worry about me. I can handle myself. You have bigger things to deal with than-”

“Stop it Will.” Finn abruptly stopped him, looking challenging for a second before sinking back into his insecurity. “I mean, Mr. Schuester. Sorry I just… you’re always there for me when I need it. I just wanna help you when you need it.” He sat down and looked into his teachers eyes. “Talk to me.”

Will looked down at his desk. The only progress he had made on the tests was failing Brittany and moving around the other hundred sheets of paper. Maybe he was too distracted. Maybe Finn could help.

He sighed. “I can’t explain it. It’s like, I’ve spent my life with this woman, thinking that we loved each other and there would never be anything that one of us would do to hurt the other. And suddenly I find out she’s not the person I thought she was. She lied to me about the biggest thing that could’ve happened between us. Now I don’t know what to do with myself. Everything else in my life is hurting because of her. I can never forgive her for using me. But at the same time, I don’t know if I can forgive myself for letting it happen.”

“Don’t beat yourself up Mr. Schue. You didn’t do anything but trust your wife. She should be someone you can trust. It’s her fault that she couldn’t live up to that. Hey.” He reached out and lifted the man’s head from looking at his desk, “You are a great guy. Don’t put yourself down.”

“Thanks Finn. I really needed that. I needed someone’s help.”

“Anytime,” Finn said smiling and, without thinking, closed the space between them, pressing his lips against the older mans. Will couldn’t do anything but relax into the boy. Finn was comforting and exactly what he needed.

It was only a few seconds later that they parted and they both came back to reality.

“I’m sorry,” was immediately out of Finn’s mouth before he had the chance to consider if he really was.

“It’s okay,” was the automatic reaction before Will could consider what the other was apologizing for. But one thing was certain that he should say as a teacher. “You should go.”

He did.

They didn’t talk after that. Having Will not be the Glee coach helped defer the awkwardness but he could always feel Finn’s eyes on him more than anyone else’s. But he couldn’t do anything. It was wrong and inappropriate. They both had too many other things to even consider what could happen between them.

After Sectionals, Finn cut his partying with the gang short. He just couldn’t act like everything was okay. Not that soon. Quinn had lied to him. Puck had betrayed him. Will wasn’t even there to see them perform. What was wrong with the world? He was walking up and down streets, just to clear his head when a car slowed down and stopped next to him. He didn’t think anything of it until a familiar “hey” was called.

Turning around Finn smiles, seeing his Spanish-teacher-but-so-much-more coming out of the car.

“Mr. Schue!” He pulled the shorter man into the hug he had needed all day.

“I heard you, Finn. You were amazing! I’m so proud of you.”

“I couldn’t have done it without you Mr. Schue. Really.” He pulled back to look at the man still in his arms. “You know, I’m really glad you’re here. I feel like… like I get it. All that stuff you said about someone you trust lying to you, I get that now. I understand how you’re feeling.”

“Finn,” Will sighed, “I never wanted you to know how that feels. It’s something that’s painful… but don’t get stuck on it, okay? I know that this hurts now but you have so much of your life to live. There will be other girls.”

As Will tried to back away, Finn just pulled him in tighter.

“See that’s the thing. I don’t need other girls. I don’t think I even need Quinn. You and me, we’re like kindred spirits or something, aren’t we?”

Will looked into his eyes and then the neighborhood around them. “I don’t think we should be having this conversation on a sidewalk.”

“Where are you going?”

“I’m on my way home, but Finn you can’t-“

“Is your wife there?”

“No.”

“Please.” Finn loosened his grip on the teacher. “I just wanna talk.”

Looking into his puppy dog eyes, there’s no way he could’ve said no.

“Get in the car.”

He did.

They talked every week after that. Always on weekends when Finn could pass it off as a movie or hanging with friends. It was mostly just talking. Finn helped Will cope after Terry moved in with her sister. Will making Finn come to his senses so he could talk to Quinn and Puck like a normal human being. They tried not to touch too much. Will told himself he still had his morals and, to his knowledge, there were only about three states where anything more than this with something that young was legal. No, he couldn’t touch. He shouldn’t have even let Finn into his house. But there was something about the boy that wouldn’t let Will say no.

They were sitting in the living room of Will’s house talking about old Acafella mess ups. It was a Saturday and they had long stopped talking about the women in their lives, finding it better to just let go but kept each other’s company out of habit or need. They had only kissed about five times by then, all being initiated by Finn and stopped (not so) quickly by Will.

It was comfortable. The boys leaned against each other, snacking on chips in front of the TV that was turned down too low to make a difference. They were just calming down from what could only be called a giggle fest when Finn turned to Will with a curious look on his face.

“Why don’t you ever kiss me?”

“We shouldn’t be kissing in the first place Finn. It’s not right." Finn didn't look convinced. "I could be called on rape.”

“You can’t rape the willing.”

“Yes you can, it’s called statutory.”

“Do you want me?” Finn paused, knowing he wouldn’t get an answer but still just watching as Will uneasily took a sip of soda. “You don’t have to answer cause I know you do. You wouldn’t let me in your house every week if you didn’t. And I want you too. Come on Will, you’re the one who’s always telling me not to care what others think. To go with what feels right. Singing feels right and so does being with you.”

The man was silent, looking down at his lap. Finn took his head in his hands and pulled the older man close.

“Will.”

“You shouldn’t be calling me by my first name.”

“You’re the one who taught me I can do what I want. Why don’t you do the same?”

“I can’t.”

“You can.”

Finn eyes roamed his teacher’s face. He wasn’t just his teacher now but what was he? His mentor? His coach? His man.

“Kiss me.”

He did.

~~

It was terrible and wonderful and very sexy and definitely illegal but they snuck plenty of kisses, their happiness just below obvious. At the end of the day, they were totally in love with each other and that is all that matters.
