inadvertant boston-isms
i'm rereading some of my own fic to inspire myself to write... both to finish my monster and to foster new ideas.
so, i was reading Mischief, and at one point, Vin is chasing a guy who rounds a corner and Buck clotheslines him. so this happens:
"Delaney took a left down the next street he came to, and Vin drew upon hidden reserves of energy when he heard the collision of a body and what he thought were garbage cans. As he came around the corner, Buck stood there, breathless, holding his arm at the elbow. Delaney lay in a panting pile next to a pair of overturned barrels and their contents."
i wouldn't have even thought about it, but i saw on someone's FB status today one of those "I'm from boston and i say..." status updates, and they said "i call a trash can a barrel..." Then when i was reading, i was like d'oh! it's funny the regional things you don't realize you do, isn't it?
have you guys ever noticed this in any of your own writing?
