I spent the day in San Jose yesterday. I got up at 4:30am(!) to catch a 6:15am flight to SJ and then caught a 7:45pm flight home (after a mad dash to/through the airport, more details to follow). My stepdad's little brother was getting married, so we flew up for that. We felt very jet-setter-ish to be flying up for just a day.
Anyway, we got to SJ around 7:15am and were picked up by my Aunt Joanne (technically these are all "step" relations, but it's too complicated to keep saying "step" in front of everything and besides, they're like real family to me anyway), who took us to breakfast before going to work and leaving us with her car. After we dropped her off at work, we went to my Aunt Sue's to see if she needed any help since she was in charge of the post-wedding party. She did, so my stepdad and I helped with food prep and decorating for the rest of the morning. Then we grabbed some lunch and went over to Memere's ("grandmother" in French) house, where we hung around for a while before getting ready to go to the wedding, which was at 2:30pm.
Now the wedding itself was just a completely informal ceremony at the rusty (literally; the building is made out of steel and they let it get all rusty on purpose so they don't have to take care of it) Santa Clara County Services building. The wedding chapel in there is located in a tiny room inside the cafeteria in the basement. XD The bride and groom wore matching Hawaiian shirts, and the ceremony itself was less than five minutes long. It probably would have been a full five minutes if they had gotten their rings in time, but they didn't so it was a really super-short ceremony. There were about 15 of their friends and family there and we filled up the tiny little wedding chapel. =)
After the ceremony, we went back to Aunt Sue's house for the party. To go along with the Hawaiian theme (I'm not sure matching shirts can be called a theme, but you get the idea), we had yummy Hawaiian-ish food. And I had fun hanging out with my SJ relatives that I only get to see once or twice a year.
And now for the airport!drama. My mom called my stepdad's cell phone around 5pm to say that we had gotten a message at home saying that our flight back to SB had been canceled and we'd been rebooked for the next morning, no explanation or anything. Which would have been fine since we have all that family up there who would have taken care of us for the night. But still, there was much confusion. So my stepdad kept trying to call United and see if the flight really was canceled or not while also hanging out at the party. So he didn't get through until almost 7pm, at which point he was told that no, the flight wasn't canceled. So we fairly ran out of the house (leaving much confusion in our wake) and my Aunt Joanne sped us over to the airport in 15 minutes. So then it was 7:15pm, half an hour before our flight is supposed to leave. We ran inside to the ticket counter and were forced to stand in line in suspense for several minutes due to the evilness of large airports where the people who work there want nothing to do with you if you've bought your ticket online and instead direct you to the evil "easy" check-in machines. Of course, the check-in machine was under the impression that our flight was canceled (in spite of the fact that the flight status screen said our flight was "on time", i.e. not canceled), so it wouldn't let us do anything. So we waited around in suspenseful confusion for a few more minutes before a ticket agent finally came to the counter and was able to give us our boarding passes. The flight wasn't canceled, it was just a "computer glitch". So we grabbed our tickets and sprinted over to the security check-in, made it through in record time, and arrived safely at our gate with 15 minutes to spare.
So the lessons learned from this latest airport experience are never to go anywhere without overnight accessories even if you're only going for a day AND that my airport!drama streak is apparently back again. Seriously, I used to always have something go wrong EVERY time I flew anywhere. About half the time it was just delays (but looooong delays) but there were also the times when I would get attacked by airport!drama such as yesterday's. I think I had one year where nothing happened to me, but now I can safely say that the airport!drama streak is back. =/
However, in spite of the airport!drama, yesterday was a great day. I think that's the best wedding I've been to, even though the ceremony was only about three minutes long. I think the informality of it really allowed you to feel the love and friendship more than at a super-formal wedding. It was so nice. =)
And a double dose of poetry today since I missed yesterday. Yesterday's poem:

Love is not just a function of the eyes.
Beautiful objects will, of course, inspire
Possessive urges - you need not despise
Your taste. But when insatiable desire
Inflames you for a girl who's out of fashion,
Lacking in glamour - plain, in fact - that fire
Is genuine; that's the authentic passion.
Beauty, though, any critic can admire.

I thought I'd post a love poem since I went to a wedding yesterday. And it's a nice poem, particularly since I often feel rather "out of fashion". ;)
And today's poem:

A man said to the universe:
"Sir, I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

Because we all feel like that sometimes...
I kinda have a headache so I'm off to try to get rid of it. Laters.
