Buona sera da Firenze!

So now I am in Italia!

My parents got in to Munich last night and then we took the train down this morning, arriving in Firenze (Florence) around 18:30. We checked in to our hotel, which is just a few blocks from the Duomo, and then grabbed dinner at a place around the corner. I am sorry to say that the pizza I had in Munich a week and a half ago was much better. The gelato, however, was much better here. But I am sure there will be many more opportunities for Italia to impress me with their food. :)

After dinner, we strolled on over to the Duomo, and the sky was that perfect shade of dusky evening blue that I love, and the Duomo is really quite impressive. Tomorrow, we are hoping to wander further, but it's supposed to be disgustingly hot (mid-30s C/mid-90s F), so there may be frequent gelato stops.

I wrote my final paper for the Munich "class" while riding the train through the Alps (*sigh* that's so much cooler than writing papers at the last minute in my room in D.C.).

Yesterday, before my parents arrived, I spent my last day in Munich hanging out with Dave (my Heiße Liebe buddy), who was also still in Munich for another day. We went to the Tierpark (zoo) in the rain, which was pretty cool. We had to seek refuge in the elephant house during a particularly torrential rainsplat, but otherwise the rain was not too bad. Dave picked elephants as his must-see animal and I chose wolves, and we saw some other cool animals, too.

It was so sad to leave Munich this morning. Firenze does not seem as immediately friendly and welcoming as Munich did. Munich was such a great experience. I met some awesome new people among my classmates, and I also got to meet some awesome LJ-people in person. This class totally exceeded all my expectations of awesomeness.
