Starbucks Boy was going to give me my tea for free today because I looked so tragical when I came in. :) But then the manager swooped in and rang me up while he was fetching my tea, alas.
I looked tragical because I went in to the health center for bloodwork today. (Routine stuff 'cause I had a physical yesterday.)
Except they couldn't find a vein. I say "they" because it took two people half an hour to find a vein. The first guy didn't really seem to know what he was doing, but he gave it a go on my right arm anyway. Fail. Then he called for backup. (Me: uh...) The backup nurse arrived and took a stab (literally!) at my left arm. (Nurse: *prodding around with the needle* Are you okay? Me: *very faintly, trying very hard not to squirm out of the chair* yes?) Fail again. So then the backup nurse goes for my hand. (Me: Really? My hand??) Already foreseeing many bruises in my future, I convinced her to try on my right hand first. And thankfully she was finally successful. (But only barely, because it was almost not a strong enough vein to fill the two vials they needed.) They both praised me for being so courageous, and I just kind of smiled faintly and fled as quickly as possible.
I feel that if ever there was an incident deserving of a lollipop, that was definitely it. But no one offered me one and I did not stay to ask for a lollipop.
And thus I arrived at Starbucks with a cotton swab taped to each elbow and the back of my right hand.
The bruising is actually not as bad as I thought (yet? I dunno how long it takes to materialize), so my elbows are fine. But my hand is bruised and I am so glad I got her to do my right hand.
