the Universe & I

After stopping by the library to return some books, I popped over to Teaism for a while, to do some homework reading (for children's lit, so it was fun reading, even! plus, I got my favourite table, right next to the koi pond) with a mug of Darjeeling and naan with mango chutney (oh, so delicious!). And then, after doing enough reading to feel somewhat at ease, I decided I'd do some podficcing when I got back to the flat.

See, there's this longer fic I've been trying to get to for ages, but the Universe doesn't really want me to record it, apparently, because every time I manage to block out a chunk of time for tackling it, there is always something noisy going on. Like, for instance, my flatmate having got it into his head to clean his heater today. Not just clean, but deep clean, which involves sanding it, which is thankfully not terribly annoying as far as sounds go, but would provide stupid background clutter on a recording. *sigh* Clearly I need to outwit the Universe in order to get this podfic recorded ever. Perhaps if I don't think to myself "I'm going to record fic today!" and instead just sneakily do it?

Mostly, the Universe seems to like me quite a bit (e.g., my awesome job, NASM internship, Germany trip, etc.). But sometimes it can be kind of annoying.

Which reminds me of this random bit of poetry:

A man said to the universe:
"Sir, I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

~ "A Man Said To The Universe" by Stephen Crane

Still, I am in a wonderfully happy mood today! The weather turned cold again (so I am sort of worried about my beloved crocuses), but I turned in my IRB draft proposal (for the Fanlore study) to the professor yesterday and he doesn't think it sucks ("You're already thinking like a researcher!" he says, and promises more detailed comments by Monday), so that's a huge relief. Plus, now that means I have direction for both my term papers, which is very yay! I mean, I'll still be super-busy and stressed, but I feel much better about it now, because the bad stressful part was not knowing quite what my topics were and therefore not knowing which directions to be researching and such. But now I do, and in celebration I declared last night to be a Night Off and I think tonight will be, too. :)

podfic, the universe, poetry, craaazy flatmate, stress, academia, research
