It's almost time for the
National Book Festival! Okay, it's not for two more weeks, but still.
Last year, there wasn't anyone I was particularly looking forward to seeing, but of course I went anyway because, you know, book geek and I was vaguely interested in some of the people, just not bouncing-off-the-walls. Mostly the authors I popped in at were rather disappointing in person, with the exception of Mercer Mayer and Jack Prelutzky who are made of win.
But today, when I finally remembered to look up the author list for this year, I nearly died of awesome.
David Shannon (picture books)
Joseph Bruchac (who writes stories based on Native American life and legends)
Jon Scieszka (I can finally learn how to pronounce his name!)
Alexander McCall Smith (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series is one of my very favourites; they're magical)
Neil Gaiman (who needs no introduction, right?)
That's a lot of awesome for one day! And those last two are some of my writing heroes. akhsjhksfdks!!! *explodes in raptures of book geeky glee*
