"Ethical Bizarre": A New Wave In Plagiarism
So here's an interesting development in the art of plagiarism: babelfishing.
See, propinquitine Googled herself for fun and found an English-Russian-English translation of her SGA "The Last Man" missing scene, Foreseeable. The page provides quite an amusing rendition of the first 500 words of her story (the best line by far is Rodney's "It's not that we're not cock-a-hoop to make you second"-seriously, cock-a-hoop!).
Technically, I guess it's not plagiarism, since she is given credit as the "father" of this "McKay/Sheppard (pre-rip)" snippet (the story header was copied along with the text, and it preserved the link to her journal, too). But it's not an authorized use of the story. Near as we can figure, it's a website (by a guy in Moscow, hence the suspicion that the story's been run through a Russian translator) that uses other people's blog posts for the sole purpose of generating hits for monetary gain.

So naturally I went and Googled myself. Nothing weird came up for my LJ name, but while I was at it, I also Googled my real name. And discovered I'm not the only me anymore! There is some high school track star with my name. :( I liked my unique name. She better not be using an exclamation point! On the plus side, this new doppelganger of mine means that there's no longer any porn on the first page of hits (or even the second! I didn't go further 'cause I didn't really want to find the porn), so that's good. And my stuff still comes up first.
