Today, I found my lost allergies. The wind brought them back to me. (Even though I wasn't particularly missing them. *sigh*)
In other news, I had the house to myself alllllll day and it was so nice! I stayed in most of the day, flitting between homework and goofing off, but I got to leave my bedroom door open so even though I was still in my room, it felt much more open. :)
I went out for dinner to the Atlanta Bakery Cafe, but when I got there the bakery counter was almost entirely empty. It was very sad. I mean, obviously I was there for dinner, but the point of going there is to pick up yummy pastries for dessert/breakfast. So I bought the last lonely muffin and a cookie (and, you know, a salad for dinner). (It was when I ventured out to dinner that my allergies found me, so I was a bit sniffy and sneezy in the cafe. Thankfully my nose settled back down once I got back to the house.)
And then my housemates were still all away, so I got to use the TV! Exciting! I mean, I watch stuff on my laptop, but it's not as nice as on a TV. Plus, I got to watch the random French movie I picked up from a bargain table a while back. (My laptop randomly decided not to play subtitles a couple years ago. I've absolutely no idea why. So now I have to watch all foreign movies on an actual TV since I can't stand most dubs.)
Right, so, the random French movie was
Une hirondelle a fait le printemps (the English title is Girl From Paris, though the direct translation is "one swallow brought spring" so naturally my translation issues were twitchy). It was, of course, a bit weird - in my experience, all French movies are at least a bit weird, though they vary as to whether they are happy weird (Amelie), interesting weird (La Belle et la Bete), or creepy weird (Le Genou de Claire). Anyway, this one was, um, indescribably weird? There were different layers of weirdness, see. But overall it was good. (Aside from its awful taste in music (Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight") and the two disturbingly graphic animal slaughtering scenes.) It's about a city girl (from Paris, shockingly) who decides to become a farmer. She is a really cool, hardworking woman so it's cool to see her becoming a real farmer. The main plot deals with the conflict between her and the ornery old man she's buying a farm from. And there is beautiful scenery. It's worth a watch if you like the sort of movie that's more about the connections between people and their surroundings than, say, a love story or action plot. Just beware the music and the slaughtering. D:

Once In A Blue Moon by
inmyriadbits (The Blue Castle; Valancy/Barney)
I love The Blue Castle to itty bitty pieces. ♥ It is a lesser-known novel of L.M. Montgomery's, but it's the loveliest, happiest bit of fluff for a quick read to put you in a good mood. I love Valancy; she's got just the right amounts of sass and spunk and shyness. And the other characters are all great fun to read about as well.
The book has the tragic appearance of a trashy romance novel (and unfortunately the blurb on the back cover makes it sound like one, too), but it's really very good. Okay, the plot's a bit cliche/predictable, but it's still fun and the characters are great. Reeeeeeaaad it! :) (Also, the fic I recorded is beautifully written in a good imitation of Montgomery's style, and tells the story from Barney's POV. Listen to meeeeee!)
