Documentary Filming Finish

Today I wrapped up filming on the documentary for the JT544 project.  Thankfully this did not involve any interviews or anything taking more than a couple of hours.  Basically, I just needed to obtain some b-roll for the shoot so I shot some church and synagogue exteriors for a couple of hours.  It's pretty interesting to not the big difference in design aesthetics between the two religions as far as houses of worship.  All the synagogues had a very low key look to them - in fact one of them almost looked like a boarding school except for the religious window dressings. It seemed very much like they didn't want anyone to know they were there. The Christian churches I visited seemed more like examples of bloated excess.  Huge crosses and exceedingly ornate architecture marked these buildings which made them more dynamic to photograph for the documentary but at the same time made me question the purpose of some of the excess.  Also, I guess I never really realized just how prevalent churches are in this particular area.  In a small part of Denver, the ratio of churches to synagogues was about 6:1 and I have to admit to not really noticing how much of an institution the church and religion has become in the past few years.  The state of the world makes a lot more sense now, I think.

Anyways, I finished the drafts to my grad school applications so I just need to put the polish on them.  I packed up my equipment and gear to get ready to head back up to Fort Collins tomorrow, so I don't think I'll be getting much done tonight but I feel better about where I'm at in terms of my projects at this point even if I only made it to the first base camp on the mountain.  Tomorrow I'm excited to get to film the scenes for Absolutely Charming with Will and Kristi.  It should be a bit more dynamic and less rushed since I'm spending 4 hours and 2 and a half pages of script and I had this whole scene pretty much all storyboarded.  It would be nice to use a location other than the living room but that's part of the joy of low budget filmmaking.

I expect things to be more hectic and nonsensical over the next couple of weeks due to the unyielding pressure of school and grad school applications, so all apologies in advance.
