[Martelverse AU] No return to normal

Aug 15, 2009 21:00

The Regeneration group has settled in for the night, planning to take the... er, washtubs to the geyser the next morning.  It had been a ruling made by Raine, who adamantly refused to set foot in them during the dark.

Kratos had smirked, but agreed.  He didn't trust them, even if he wasn't struck by terminally paralyzing fear at the sight of the ocean. (Who would be, when they had wings?)

Everyone else is tucked into a bed--Kratos having quietly told Colette to get a lot of rest.  He knows what's going to happen, after all--she ought to savor her dreams while she still can.  After four millenia, he's learned to relax and close his eyes, to let his body and mind recharge--but he rarely truly sleeps.  He used to, of course.  It took some time, but it was easier to be human living with human.  Loving one.

But that was a long time ago.

The children (and Raine, who Kratos mentally groups with them--after all, she's only in her second decade of life) are all tucked in bed, and Kratos is 'on night watch' outside, staring up at the Sylvaranti sky, thinking about his discussion with Martel and wondering how to subtly get in touch with Yuan.

For the first time in a long time, it feels like the night will not last long enough for all he has to do.
