Thanks for the drink, Mugen; the Raven's quite an...interesting place to be in. I did enjoy your company, though.

Thanks for letting me stay over at the Firehouse too, Raphael-sama, though it seems so strange that Lucifer and Alexiel are there too. It's a pleasure meeting everyone in there.

And...this entire strangeness has been going on for a ( Read more... )

Really, the duration of this curse is a bit unusual. Most curses only last for twenty-four hours, though some last as long as this one, or even as long as a week. Those are nearly unbearable. There have been more than a few times when I have counted down the minutes until a curse is broken at Midnight.

It seems like all of these curses are downright nasty, huh? Though, at least the one with the plague didn't last for a week; I don't think anyone will survive that.

Though, for this curse...don't they realize what they're holding?

Most of the curses are unplesaant, but some are more bearable than others. Some are even amusing, after a fashion. But I agree with you: I'm very glad the plague didn't last any longer than it is.

I'm not sure if they know what they're doing or not. I don't think they do, the way some of them are cooing over teacups. But that's the way some curses work: they cause a sort of temporary madness in people.

Amusing? It'll probably be more fun to watch than be affected, hm? Were you affected badly during the plague as well?

...I would have thought that these deities would consistently exercise some form of free will when it came to curses.

It's always more fun interesting to watch that be affected. I was concerned about the plague, but I didn't become ill with it, if that's what you mean. It was almost impossible not to be affected by it somehow, either by actually getting sick or trying not to get sick. That one wasn't all that interesting to watch, really.

Free will? I think the 'deities' themselves are the only ones with free will, and even they complain about paperwork and responsibilities.

Ah, yes, I apologize for the unclear wording there. I don't think any plague's interesting to watch, really. The past few in the human world were rather...inconvenient.

Maybe someday soon we'll all be able to find a way out. Ah, I didn't get your name, Mr...?

I certainly hope we do find a way out. I've been trying ever since I arrived here.

Cain Hargreaves. A pleasure to meet you, Miss...?

Well, I'll help out, if you want. As...colorful as this place is, it's not one where a permanent home can be made.

Mm, no need for the 'Miss', Mr Hargreaves; just Barbiel would do.

Thank you. If you'd like to help, you're more than welcome. I'd be glad of it.

Then there's no need for the 'Mister', Barbiel; just Cain will do.

Cain it is, then! It's a pleasure meeting you.

I'll be sure to, though it'll probably be after my shifts at the hospital. Are you working in this City as well?

Working at the hospital seems like a secure job, and an admirable one too. Are you a nurse there, or perhaps a doctor?

I'm afraid I'm not working at present. I managed to earn a bit of money some time ago, and I've been living off that. I'll have to find something else to do soon.

Really, I'm not at all sure how to go about finding a way out of this place. There are dozens of stories of people trying and failing to escape. I myself have things I have to do before I leave--I'd just like to know that I could leave.

It's quite rare, to see someone with such respect for the medical profession. I'm a nurse there, actually - or will be, as soon as Miss Megumi clears the application.

I see, I'm sure you'll be able to find something you like to do in here; it looks like there are still many job vacancies available.

Hmm, I'll do what I can to find out; who knows, maybe there's a loophole somewhere! Ah- you have people that you care about here, too?

Well, I've known good practitioners of medicine and I've known bad ones. The good ones deserve respect for their profession--and you seem to be one of the good ones. Miss Megumi knows what she's doing. I'm sure she'll have you running about the hospital in no time.

Yes, my sister and my manservant and a few of my enemies are here. Before they arrived I would have done just about anything to escape, but now I want all three of us to leave together. It isn't especially bad here, most of the time, but I'd like to know we could go home if it gets worse.

Are you alone here, or have you been reunited with friends since you've arrived?
