Poetry, about girls. Probably not what you think.

Strong Means Something

Raise a glass with me to Dorothy, tough as yellow bricks.
If she can follow that road, she could walk on the Styx.
She kills witches? Big deal! She tore down a veil,
Exposed the manipulator, wrinkled and pale

Let's drink to Alice, who nobody sent,
But boldly through the looking-glass went,
She began as a dream, but put the dreamer in mate
And Promethean, forged her own conscious state.

Here's to a miller's daughter, with her love of names
Here's to a rebel in her Hunger Games
Here's to Lyra, despiser of Heaven,
And Gretel with her recipes at gas mark 7.

Is Michelle O so mighty? Well, she may be.
But even she can't compete with our first first lady.

So taste the fruit with me, for Eve, who started it all,
Who taught mankind it was okay to fall,
It's thanks to her, that while we grow old,
We can love who we want, not just who we're told
Its in Eve's name we choose right over wrong,
And its thanks to her that I'm singing this song.

*Partly inspired, if you can call it that, by reading that Forbes had declared Michelle Obama the most powerful woman in the world, and by a discussion I had with queenspanky  afterwards.*
