So, how bad was last night?  Pretty bad.

Becky is moving into her new apartment this weekend and we are all very excited about this.  Naturally in preparation for the event, we have been stocking up with furniture, made many a trip to IKEA, and the like, as well as other ways to get her ready for the big move out onto her own.

Well it's supposed to rain yesterday right?  Yeah, not a big deal, I like storms (unless I'm alone, but anyway...) cool it's storming.  Well I'm inside knitting away instead of doing my research because my work ethic is nonexistant, and my mom comes running in soaking wet saying "JENNY!  We need you to help us outside - THE GARAGE IS FLOODING!"   Now mind you, the garage is where we have been storing Becky's life until moving day since we don't have a basement and our house is quite small.

So I finish the row I am on which took about an extra 5 seconds but it was not quick enough because my mom came in again and, like a drill seargent at boot camp yelled, "Jenny, NOW!"

Ok so I grab some flip flops and run outside.  Um it is POURING.  So I sprint back to the garage, wading through the lake that has become my backyard.  Alright so what's the situation:  the entire garage is in about 3 inches of standing water, except for a small patch in the middle that managed to remain dry.  Thus the mission begins.
We moved.
We lifted.
We stacked.
We killed spiders with our bare hands (and when I say we, I mean Becky - which was totally awesome!  I was so proud).

Needless to say, it was insane.  Even now trying to describe it all, there's no way to fully capture the event without you being there to understand.  But that's ok, I'll carry on.

Through all this I am wearing my khaki capris, and a cute brown shirt with some snaps forming a vneck.  I get soaked within about 5 minutes of running back and forth.  Thinking on my feet I run inside and throw off the capris because I have to wear them to work, so I grab some running shorts.  Good call.  Those eventually got soaked too.  Gross.

After moving everything to a higher elevation the best we could, we begin sweeping the water out of the garage.  I have the oldest broom known to man and am just really going at it.  The idea was to sweep it into the dirt/lawn area by the fence so that the ground could soak up some of the water, not that it was at all thirsty.  But yeah it was a pretty good effort on all our parts.  I managed to splatter our neighbors' new wood fence pretty well with the muddy water concoction, but it's ok, it was only on our side...

The light at the end of this stormy tunnel is that Becky had just signed her lease earlier that day so she got her sets of keys.  Thank goodness because we ended up having to take a bunch of the furniture and stuff over there last night because we had no place to put it!  So we had stocked the cars the best we could in the pouring rain and then drove over and dropped it all off.

But of course, this could not be as simple as I have made it sound.  We're all carrying these awkward tables around and around and around.  Becky and Mom can't remember which one is Apartment H.  Great.... but wait, we think we found it!!!! Wait - no, that's F.... Dang it!

So meanwhile I am slopping through the flooded sidewalks with this table wandering around with no real direction.  All the while fighting off mosquitos, and not very well.  I have one really uncomfortable bite on my left wrist - I saw the sucker on there and tried to shoo him off by blowing really hard but he had already sunk his itch-inducing poison sticker into my flesh.  He was NOT letting go.  Greeeeeaaaaaaaattttttttt.  * I Hate Mosquitos *

Alright, we manage to locate her apartment and take everything up.  Conveniently she's on the second floors - I love stairs!   We then come home and deal with the aftermath and clean up stuff the best we can.  Phew, glad we made it through that one!

Oh but wait, it is not over.  Silly Jenny.
We were so excited to come home and watch So You Think You Can Dance - my latest televised obsession.  But what happens?  the POWER GOES OUT!  It repeatedly went off/on for a good while until it just remained off completely.  I of course got pissed and just went to bed.  This was at like 10 o'clock.   It took me forever to fall asleep because it was so hot in the house.  No AC, no fans, nada.  Definitely not my cup of tea.  So I shed my tshirt, opting for a slinky tank top instead, but who cares, I'm going to sleep.

And now the resolution of the story:  I eventually did manage to fall asleep and the power came back on sometime during the night.  Thank goodness!  I wake up as my alarm goes off at 6.40am and get up to get ready for work.  Well it's now 7.26 and I still need to get a shower.  My skills to focus are not the best, I'll admit.  But I just had to document this incredibly typical experience for the Timm's in my livejournal. haha.  Sarcasm=funny at 730 in the morning.

So..... yes, that was my night.  I'm hoping my day at work and whatever the night holds is far superior to my adventure last night.

JT out.
