Merlin 3x04 Review and Screencaps
This is my first time reviewing. :)
Screencaps are made by me and can be snagged and used. (I used Divx Player and the Print Screen button to make them. I wore my finger out pausing and unpausing with the spacebar). Here's a link to all 90 something of them. Yeah, I went a little screencap crazy.
I love the sleep line and kept thinking throughout that scene about the blooper with Arthur's horse trotting backwards out of the scene.
Yeah Merlin, Arthur has a bad idea that ended in another attempt on his life. But you do get hit on and a half-naked man in your bed, so it wasn't a totally bad idea.
I liked how Merlin covered his butt here. I've never been clever enough to pull off what he did.
I laughed at Arthur looking around the bar at what everyone else is having. And I love the way Arthur looks at Merlin when he realizes a woman would rather shag Merlin than him.
Arthur's expressions throughout this scene are priceless. Nice touch with Merlin looking over his shoulder like he's checking her out as she walks away.
I melted at the way Arthur said, "Take your hands off her." I love his voice.
Enter hot knight of the week, Gwaine. Note to bad guy: If a man hands you his drink and smiles at you like this, he's going to punch you.
I love a good bar fight. Merlin literally kicking someone's ass, Merlin and Arthur calling out to each other, and the hilarious looks on Arthur's face.
I knew I really liked this episode when a miracle happened, someone other than Arthur appeared shirtless. Merlin must have wanted Gwaine to be more comfortable or maybe his leg wound bled on his shirt too.
Shirtlessness and Merlin's smile. Two things I love in the same scene. :D
Yet again Merlin and Arthur disagree on recreational activities. And Arthur pisses me off by throwing things at Merlin. Writers, I know he's a prat, but stuff like that goes too far.
Thankfully, the episode offered therapy in the form of Gwaine and the sun caressing his chest.
Gwaine goes for a walk and does what Arthur should be doing: romancing Gwen. Maybe Arthur has been hit over the head a few too many times, and doesn't get that Lancelot and Gwaine have the right idea. If Arthur and Gwen actually showed passion like between Gwen and Lancelot , then maybe I'd buy the "I love you, but we can't be together" storyline.
But the show would also have to have scenes where Arthur & Gwen have UST, longing, and feelings for each other that build up the anticipation for when they do get together. The show hasn't done that, so I continue to be bored by Arthur/Gwen.
The smiles Arthur has for Merlin are brighter and have more feeling than what's on his face during scenes with Gwen. Where's the love? I'm very surprised a story hasn't been written where Gwen notices how much more open Arthur is with Merlin and how happy he looks. If that continues to be the way things are, I'd understand why Gwen would want Lancelot who can offer her strong feelings and romance.
Arthur how come you win so much at bromance and fail so much at romance?
Gwen: Unfortunately I'm not a princess.
Gwaine: You are to me.
Gwen, stop waiting for Arthur. The guy hasn't given you the kind of romance the future knights do!
The flower in Gwaine's mouth was so cute!

Merlin is already plotting revenge.
Arthur and Merlin's expressions keep me smiling through most of the episode.
After several scenes of life throwing Merlin more pickled eggs, Merlin and Gwaine bond.
You can just here the Merlin/Gwaine fics being born.
Merlin, you have some explaining to do.
Gwaine and Merlin bond some more over the smell of leather. And Arthur makes more funny faces while practicing and kicking ass.
Merlin gets picked on some more. And Gwaine saves him with awesome sword fighting. Then Arthur regains some of the brownie points he lost by standing up for Gwaine.
Gwen talks of Arthur's kingly attributes to Gwaine When she talks like that it makes me think she likes who Arthur could be as king and not him as a person. Well, she's never around him long enough to get to know him as a person and fall in love with *him*.
I liked the Uther & Arthur scene. It made me kind of sad thinking about who Uther was before he turned into who he is now. Then Uther quickly pats Arthur and puts the pressure on him yet again to not disappoint him, and I want him to die again.
I liked this scene. More brownie points to Arthur for not being pratty. Arthur licking his lips distracts me a few times from what Arthur is saying.
The Melee feeds the action lover in me. From the previews, I thought it would take up more of the episode. I'm not disappointed because I enjoyed the other scenes in this episode and the melee did have some good shots.
Merlin tries to expand Team Arthur, but once a knight sleeps in Merlin's bed they are fated to leave Camelot.
Merlin points out the obvious to high school jealousy! Arthur.
Look Arthur, Gwaine makes Gwen laugh, when is the last time you did that for her? Oh, I forgot, you don't give her the time of day!
Arthur quickly forgets Gwen exists again and chases after Merlin.
