To say I loved this episode is an huge understatement. It was epic and had wonderful moments for all the characters and great Arthur/Merlin.
This post is screencap heavy. I made too many screencaps to post. The rest are
here.
If I hadn't been following spoilers, Leon's almost-death would have been more disturbing. I still shouted at the screen when I saw Leon staring blankly.
I want to hug Arthur in this scene. He seems to be stoically trying to hold himself together. How many years has he served alongside those knights?
I love the Druids (except Mordred who I like as a villain). I wish Merlin could spend time with them and learn magic from them.
I'm glad that Leon came back. Arthur's so happy to see one of his men alive.
The cup being the same Cup of Life Nimueh had is a great touch.
Uther is it a good idea to send Arthur alone? After all, you did order a Druid killed and there was that time Camelot raided a Druid village looking for Morgana. The Druids may be a peacful people, but they might not like it if they find out Arthur is from Camelot.
Alone to Arthur means with Merlin. Season 3 has taught me that when Merlin is not around, Arthur is looking for him.
I love how Arthur and Merlin feel like two friends teasing each other in this scene. The whole scene is under a minute long, but there is so much going on in it.
Morgana has a good scene with Morgause. I like the hood trim on Morgause's cape.
Morgana sees Arthur riding alongside Merlin. Anyone else who sees them leaving together probably thinks they are just going on a hunting trip together.
Oh Cenred, whenever an evil person says you will get what you deserve, you are going to die.
"Maybe just this once we'll have no trouble." Arthur and Merlin are trouble magnets. I'm surprised magical beasts and sorcerers out for revenge haven't attacked the two left and right on the way to Cenred's kingdom.
I like the look of the pit Arthur and Merlin are in. Of course, Merlin points out he was right. Merlin echoes my enthusiasm at seeing Gwaine again. I love Arthur's reaction at Merlin being picked to fight the champion and the way he talked his way into the fight to protect Merlin.
Synchronized head turning.
Morgause, Cenred hasn't failed as many time as you and Morgana have failed at killing Arthur.
I'm glad Arthur fought Gwaine. They both make funny faces at time during the fight, and I love the choreography. Poor Merlin doesn't get a good view of the fight.
Arthur doesn't like Merlin telling Gwaine what they are after without consulting him first. Merlin you should have seen the NCIS
love tap coming.
Merlin, I love you for calling them on their half-baked plan and breaking up the testosterone fest Arthur and Gwaine had going on.
Good move Arthur using the Druid boy as a hostage when you are surrounded by magic users. It could have backfired on him though. Arthur is struck by an arrow again. It sucks being Arthur some days.
Merlin tricks Gwaine into giving him and Arthur some alone time, but he can't heal Arthur. Merlin, I hope he learn some powerful healing magic soon. He's going to need it about every time Arthur goes somewhere with him.
Because the episode needs a a tiny island of Arthur/Gwen in the sea of Arthur/Merlin scenes... The trio make their way back to Camelot and find Elyan in Gwen's house. Merlin orders Elyan and Gwaine to find Gwen. He then puts his arm around Arthur and takes him to Gaius' quarters.
Then comes another great Arthur/Merlin moment. Arthur asks him to go to the woods with Elyan, Gwaine, and Gaius. Merlin replies, "Nah, I've seen the woods already." Arthur smiles back at him.
Merlin and Arthur watch as Uther learns how he's been played all season. I love this scene. Uther, Morgana, and Morgause are all great in this scene. Poor Arthur, what a way to find out about Morgana.
I hope next episode is as epic or more epic than this one. And I hope the Great Dragon gets to mow down some immortal soldiers (like the dragon in the game
Drakengard).
