When Buffy noticed camp ended and she was back in her own world she figured Bart would find her soon. She didn't expect him to be standing right beside her when she opened her eyes.

"That was fast."

"Thanks!" Bart said, then, realizing his surroundings were very Sunnydale looked a little more unsure. "I didn't run here."

"...oh," said Buffy. Because she was happy he was here but not when he was making that face. So she figured she'd hug him, because that helped when punching didn't and she never wanted to punch Bart.

When hugging Bart she noticed he had a collar on his neck, mainly because it sort of poked her shoulder and she bent down to inspect it.

"Dear Slayer, warped time and space for you. This is the Key. Please guard with life or multiverse will be sucked into hell dimensions.

PS. altered memories so nobody would notice. In conclusion, totally cousins.

"Hey! That was just two times," Bart protested, "never let me live it down..."

"I'm wondering about this Key thing more, maybe Giles will know. I bet his books have gotten mustier while I was away."

Bart blinked, completely unaware of how uncomfortable the conversation was making Buffy. "Can I call your mom Aunt Joyce?"

"...yeah, I think she sort of expects it now."

"D'you expect it? Since I've got weird extra memories and I bet you do too but you know it's not and I'm still gonna go back and find Kon and everybody so you're gonna be happy and grow up and have kids but I won't call her that if it makes you feel weird."

"I'm good, Bart. Thanks."

Bart twiddled his thumbs, which looked very strange at superspeed. "...does this mean I'm your family now?"

Buffy stared at him for a second.

"-because I was thinking that you're like family but not since there's no adoption or those weird rituals where you cut hands and shake on it like in that book but this magic thing sort of counts but only if you want it too, I just said I'd never leave and...and..."

"Dork, I considered you my family for long time."

Bart, already primed for rejection, looked hurt before he heard her, then a little indignant at the term dork, then back to ecstatic again.

"Really?"

"Yes, really. So let's not mess up the timestream so we'll forget this okay?"
