It seems abilities have finally been restored.

Of course. However for some beings here, a further restriction to human level is drastic, and rather than a learning experience it becomes simply unpleasant.

Of course it is. However, should you suddenly find yourself missing most of your senses, you would find it even more unpleasant. That's what it was like for many of those affected.
