It seems abilities have finally been restored.
[Guess who sounds pretty apathetic about this. He's a little more animated about the second topic, however.]Also, I missed much of the events that happened the last week or two. I heard something regarding a bomb which, presumably, didn't detonate. It would be appreciated if someone could inform me

I'm available now, if it's important.

[If Rei insists, then Rei insists.]

[Now he sounds a mix of exasperated, awkward, and resigned. He doesn't want to be having this conversation. He's not good at them.]

[If this were video, Castiel would see his eyes narrowing, muscles stiffening. He's not all that comfortable with it either.]

I was... Angry. I spoke too quickly and didn't entirely mean what I said.

And?

Though I am withdrawing from proactive attempts to safeguard those here from Lucifer or the others, it doesn't mean I will simply watch any of them harm those here, either. In any individual confrontation, should I have means to intercede, I will.
However, my ability to do so has been greatly diminished, and part of the reason for the initial declaration was to see who here might be capable of dealing with a threat should one arise. Few seem prepared to defend themselves, rather assuming others will do so for them.

Hino Rei has complete trust in you. She turns to you as often as she can and accepts your help in every form without question. She is starting to depend on you.
If the only way you can think to aid her is to sneak around hoping you may find someone prepared to defend themselves or others, it's time you start thinking differently.

She knows better than to depend on my assistance as of now. I am capable of very little at this point.
[It's painful to his pride to actually admit, but it's very true. He's barely more than mortal. His only really strategy is in the familial bond with Lucifer.]
No. I was hoping the main population may be able to defend themselves. Rei, and my other friends, I may still be able to and intend to attempt to safeguard, but that's possible only by maintaining a nonantagonistic relationship with Lucifer. That, in turn, can only be done if I don't oppose him in any form.

[It's firm. A very important distinction. She is entirely enthralled in these little angel games. All because of you, Castiel. That's how Hitsugaya sees it. Good luck convincing him otherwise.
And then, everything derails at the mention of Lucifer.]
You can't appease him. Why would anyone think that would work?

I don't understand.
[He almost sighs at that next comment, though.]
Rei said that as well, but he can be reasoned with, and certainly negotiated with. I have done both multiple times, and on an individual basis there is potential to convince him not to take action. My brother Gabriel and I are both capable of doing this, and neither of us wish to see Lucifer harm anyone.

[Reasoning and negotiating. Not necessarily appeasing. But doing whatever Lucifer wants to keep certain people safe? That shouldn't be happening.]
You realize you're making deals with the devil.
[It doesn't have much meaning behind it when Hitsugaya says it. It's only a phrase to him, one hadn't even heard before arriving in Adstring. But to literally make deals with Lucifer seems ... off. The consequences should be obvious, shouldn't they? Short-term safety in exchange for long-term torment. Hell doesn't have to exist for that sort of consequence to take effect.]
For a potential result.

I am aware. I made a deal with him prior, about three months ago, and it held until just before this latest event began; he kept his word during the time.
[It hadn't, however, been easy to be in constant contact with Lucifer. Nervewracking at best, dangerous at worst. However, then again, he'd been going behind Lucifer's back due to terms of their deal he couldn't uphold, and that had created tension. The more informal agreements they were coming to case-by-case seemed to work better.]

[He scoffs, and it's followed by a barely audible wooshing sound, likely Hitsugaya waving his arm through the air.]
You'll ask Lucifer nicely if he'll leave your friends alone. That's how you're interceding.

What do you expect from me? That is the only option I have available. Attacking Lucifer is suicide, even if I had a weapon that would be of use against him, because he will simply return. Convincing him not to take action, or simply distracting his attention, are the only things that will not attract retribution from him.
