I just finished reading on of Krista's books, it is called "Marley and Me." It was horrible, I cried the last few chapters, I couldn't read I was crying so much. I would recommend this book to most of my friends, it's about a guys life with his dog, who is the worst dog ever. The book makes Boris look like a saint. :) Anyways...I'm apparently a big baby.
I'm so messed up this week. Danielle called in on third shift the other night. So, I worked until 3am. Pain in my ass. I don't like working with Heather. She thought she was SC, until this crazy thing happened...then it was all up to me again. Thank god, because it was nuts. (See story below)
This week has been crazy without Bob. No consistency whatsoever. I have closed with Janet, Jerry, Peggy, and Chris...all of which were amazingly not so bad. Only had one actual lane open from 7pm on when Janet had the store...that was with no call ins. Peggy had the store Wednesday night when I had 5 call ins on my shift alone. Rough night. Last night was Chris...amazingly I didn't want to kill her too much.
Anyways...Story Time. Don't know who will find this one interesting, except Erika and Brenton...maybe Krista...she can relate...
So, I was cleaning belts on Wednesday night, the night I stayed over. Neal (hardlines manager) was leaving and mentioned to me some young guy was heading towards media with a knapsack. He said he wished LP was still here. About 10 minutes later, so called knapsack boy came through lane 14.(It was almost midnight at this time). Ashley (fairly new) was the cashier, and I immediately thought there was going to be some kind of problem. He yells down to me and asks where the Green Dot prepaid cards are...I tell him and he runs.
He comes back and he is purchasing a PS3, but it doesn't prompt her to put in the warranty code...he says it'll be alright and wants to buy the two-year warranty as well. He also has four games, the prepaid mastercard for $100 and an American Express gift card for $50. His total is about $700. And of course he wants to pay by check. I didn't see this or the check until he came up to me and asked if I was the Service Coordinator.
He tells me he is on the phone with telecheck and he will get it straightened out. Apparently, it was denied. I asked to see the check. He is from Whitmore Lake (not too far, I guess) his ID number on the check is from North Carolina...he doesn't have a driver's license with him and the bank is out of Utah (Zion's bank). Not too mention, the check is missing numbers in the account number...or so it seems it is. He talks to telecheck, he tells them everything, including the store number and merchant number...without even hesitating. He writes down an approval code and gives it to me and tells me that is all I need to get his check to go through. I just stare at him. I tell him there is no way I can accept the check if I didn't personally talk to telecheck.
He says, OK and calls them back. This time he is on hold. The entire time he was on hold he tells me about himself. Apparently, he was a SC at store 64, with some STL named Dean. And everytime something happened like this he would just get his team leader to give him his manager number to override things like this to make the customer happy. He said his dad was in the parking lot waiting for him, but he didn't live with his parents because he was 27. He works in Grand Rapids now, but was on vacation. He was going up north snowboarding. He spent $600 on food earlier today, but we kept his check so he couldn't show me. It was weird.
I tell him I will call telecheck. I talk to them and they say no way. His account is a level three with red flags or something like that. I was instructed not to take the check no matter what. Well, it's not like I would take the check anyway...not after this anyways...I kind of laugh. I tell him and he says there has to be a mistake. He wants to try his credit card. It's declined. (surprise) But, he tells me not to worry, he has two more. Which, it was odd...they were all the same exact card...or so it looked. All three credit cards were declined and he was back on the phone with telecheck.
He is talking to someone on the phone and he is arguing with them about his account and his funds, after about 10 minutes they apparently verified he had $6000 in the account, but still told him no. He asked to talk to a supervisor. After about 20 seconds on the phone with the so-called supervisor he writes down another approval code and hangs up. I again stress the fact I WILL NOT take the approval code without talking to them.
He decides he will try again tomorrow. He asks me rip up his check and throw it away. I do as he watches. He left...and I laughed. I got his check out of the clean trash can and taped it back together. I gave it to LP last night...Chris and Lisa think its crazy. Personally, I don't think he talked to telecheck. He knew too much of what he needed to know, except one thing...he never told telecheck if it was a personal or business check. Hmmm...also, if you call the 800 number does it go through the same prompts if you call #814. I don't think it would for the guests. *shrugs*
I believe he has done this before and got the cashier just to type in the approval number. When you're on that screen the approval number doesn't have to be real. It goes through no matter what, telecheck currently sent out a letter stating they won't refund the check if we take them without the correct approval number.
Anyways...I'm going to be late to work. Goodbye.
