So, I was actually doing some research for my psychology presentation. And I came across this and just had to show it to you all. I thought it was quite funny. It is now my Amusing Find of the Day.

"Most female parts are woefully missing from our cache of cultural symbols and gestures. Not surprising in a patriarchal Puritanical Christian culture. The male sexual symbols however, are seen on every street corner, especially on New York streets. The erect penis is what is symbolized when you `flip someone the bird', or the meatier Italian version which uses the entire forearm (braggarts). Maybe that's why it always seemed so wrong, to me, for women to give people the finger. All Feminism aside, I think this gesture should remain strictly in the male domain. Women aren't missing out on a thing here. When a guy flips another guy off, in essence he is saying `Oh yea! Well . . . erection you!' Ladies, we need not covet this eloquent if mystifying male territorial ritual. It's as meaningless as the ever popular epithet which translates to "Oh yea! Well . . . I hope you have sexual intercourse, Pal!" If you stop and think about it, wishing one's combatants erections and good sex hardly seems fit conversation for conflict. It is interesting that this society chooses to superimpose sexual images over violence. I wonder if in a less sexually oppressive society the finger would be a friendly, polite greeting like shaking hands. "Hi, Mr. Johnson, Good Boner!" "Thanks Dick, Have a good Hard-On. Oh, and please extend my heartiest Erections to your lovely wife."
